However many travellers live to regret that decision. If you don't take out adequate travel insurance, you may find that it could be one of the most expensive decisions of your life.
What sort of work is covered under the BIG OE Policy?
Downunder Insurance have developed this policy specifically for the Big OE and backpacker market. As we know that a huge number of travellers head to the UK on a working holiday every year, we thought it was important to ensure you are covered for work as well as travel while you away from home. All types of work are covered, with the exceptions of:
Manual Labour (no construction or building work, or work involving heavy industrial machinery). Employment (involving an increased risk of injury) and sports performed on a professional basis will not be covered under the policy unless declared to, and accepted by, Downunder Insurance at the time of taking out the policy in return for additional premium and/or changes in cover. You can view the Policy Wording here for more information on Working Holiday Cover.
Medical and emergency assistance
Once you have decided that you do in fact need insurance, choose a policy that has, at the very least, $5 million cover for medical exp enses. The last thing you want to do if sick or injured is to worry about how you are going to pay your medical bills. We also suggest you take out a policy that has around the clock emergency assistance cover as you never know what time of the day or night you are going to medical assistance.
Personal
Liability and Legal Expenses
Two other aspects of cover which are extremely important, are personal liability and legal expenses cover. Personal liability covers you for any damage or bodily injury you cause to somebody else's property or person. As an example, if you were windsurfing in Tarifa and your board and/or sail hit someone else in the head causing an injury, you would be covered for any claim made against you regarding that injury (subject to full policy terms and conditions), as well as legal expenses.
