The Essential Backpackers Guide to Europe - Part 1

Published: 04/22/2013

In this series of articles, we will be providing some useful advice for those intending to go backpacking around Europe. This is a wonderful part of the world to visit, but in order to get the most out of this type of trip it will take a bit of research and planning before you go – this is what we are going to focus on with this blog post.

Importance of Planning Your Trip to Europe

There are so many options in Europe, that it will be necessary to have some type of plan in order to get the most out of this kind of trip. This is not to say that backpackers need to plan every moment of their travels, or that they can’t be very flexible, but it does mean that they have done their homework, and they have a good idea about how they are going to get the most out of this experience. If people fail to do any research and planning, they are going to end up missing out on things, and they will probably find that everything is a bit messy.

Things to Consider When Planning a Backpacking Trip to Europe

Here are some of the things that people might want to consider when planning a backpacking trip around Europe:

  • It is a good idea that individuals think carefully about what they want to experience during this trip of Europe. Just going to the usual tourist attractions may be fine for some people, but this type of approach can be very unsatisfying for others. It is much better if people think about what they would like from this trip so that they can make sure that there is going to be plenty of stuff they like in the itinerary.
  • The next thing that needs to be decided is how they are going to get to Europe. If people are looking to travel to mainland Europe from the UK, they will find that there are plenty of cheap options for doing this.
  • It is also going to be important for tourists to consider how they are going to get around Europe. For people who intend to do a lot of travelling, the best option might be some type of interrailing pass (we will discuss this option in more detail in a later article).
  • It is also recommended that people make some plans as to where they are going to stay during their trip. If individuals are trying to save money, they can either stay in youth hostels or go camping. In Eastern Europe, it is also possible to find cheap hotels that might well be inside a backpackers budget. One of the nice things about travelling at night time is that it saves on accommodation costs.
  • Any plan that you make needs to allow for some flexibility or else it can take a great deal of enjoyment out of the trip.
  • It is recommended that people do a good deal of research into what is going to be available in the places they will be visiting. It is also well worth checking out any good deals that can be found in these destinations; this type of research is easy thanks to the internet.
