Best Places to Enjoy South East Asia from the Air

Published: 11/14/2012

Adventure seekers like to do something a bit different when they go travelling around the world. It can become a bit boring to just follow the herd, and follow the well trodden path between one tourist attraction and the next. Even countries in South East Asia, that were once considered the top name in exoticism, can now be viewed as the ‘same old, same old.’ One way to really do something a bit different in this part of the world is to take to the air. The best options for doing this would include:

The Angkor Wat Balloon

Angkor Wat may be the most historical important temple complex on the planet, but the area has also been swamped by tourists in recent years. Those visitors who wish to enjoy a more unique experience can choose the Angkor Wat Balloon. This bright yellow balloon doesn’t actually go anywhere, but it allows tourists to ascend 200 metres up into the air so that they can admire the view. The best time to do this is at sunrise or sunset, but it is necessary to book in advance to ensure a place at these times.

Balloons Over Began Experience

The fact that Myanmar (Burma) has been cut off from the rest of the world for decades, means that there is still some kudos to be gained from travelling there. If travellers want an even bigger opportunity to impress their mates back home in the pub, they will want to try the Balloons Over Began Experience. This trip involves hovering above the famous Began Temples, and passing above the Ayeyarwaddy River. It is definitely recommended that you take your camera with you.

Van Vieng Balloon Ride

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Laos is Van Vieng. This is a great place to just sit back and relax, but it is in the great outdoors where most of the fun is to be found. A balloon ride above Van Vieng is something that only a few tourists get around to experiencing, and it is highly recommended.

Bangkok Helicopter Ride

The fact that things are so much cheaper in South East Asia means that options that would be out of the question at home now become real possibilities. It is relatively cheap to go on a helicopter ride from Bangkok, and this can be an unforgettable experience. If people want to get the best value from the experience, they can actually choose this as a means of getting from one part of Thailand to another. This is not the sort of thing that most of us would be able to afford more than once, but it is certainly an once-in-a-lifetime experience worth considering if you are visiting Bangkok.

So there you have just a few options for how you can explore South East Asia from the air – there are plenty more ways of doing this. If you do decide to engage in this type of activity, it is always best to check your travel insurance to make sure that you are covered.
