Adventure Sports in Australia – Where to Go

Published: 01/21/2013

Some people need a bit more on holiday than lying on a beach, visiting tourist attractions, or spending time in a bar. Those of us who are a bit more adventurous will like to be challenged and thrilled when we are on holiday – we need some adventure sports to get our blood pumping. Australia is one of the best destinations in the world when it comes to this type of activity, and in this article, we will be looking at some of the best places to go if you fancy a bit of challenge.

Neptune Islands South Australia

Scuba diving could definitely fall into the category of adventure, but if you really want to take things to the edge, you might want to try diving in a shark cage. You can do this in Neptune Islands and get up close and personal to some great white sharks. This is probably not something for the fainthearted as being stuck underwater in a cage while sharks swim around you could be the stuff of nightmares. If you are a thrill seeker though, this could be your idea of heaven.

Sydney Harbour

If you think speed and water are a good combination, you might want to travel to Sydney Harbour. Here you will be able to zooming around the harbour at breakneck speeds, and almost feel like you are flying across the water. Sydney is one of the destinations that almost all travellers will pass through on their holiday in Australia, so this will be a good option for the adventurous during their time in the city.

Byron Bay National Park, New South Wales

If you would like to take to the air then you might want to go to Byron Bay National Park in New South Wales. Here you will be able to try out some hang gliding and enjoy some of the best wind conditions for this sport in the whole of Australia. One of the other great advantages of hang gliding in this part of the world is that there are so many great things to see. We advise that once you get in the air you check out the coastline.

Tasmania

The island of Tasmania is somewhere all visitors to Australia should try to visit. This is one of the largest islands in the world, and there are some superb national parks locally. One of the things that you will definitely want to check out while you are there is some white water rafting along the Franklin River. This is one of the most exciting experiences you will ever get to enjoy – there is nothing quite like speeding through the cold and violent water, and you can expect plenty of periods of high adrenalin.

So there you have a few ideas for where to go in Australia for adventure sports. The places we have mentioned here are really just the tip of the iceberg, and you will find many more places to go for adventure during your trip.
