Strike action at Ferihegy Airport in Budapest has demonstrated the need for backpackers to seek
cheap travel insurance.
The airport has been badly affected recently by several days of strike action that caused severe disruption to Hungary's central transport hub, but the airport has reported that 200 members of staff out of a full quota of 299, have now returned to work. Backpackers planning to use the airport in the next few days should find that their travels are now unhindered.
Domokos Szollar, head of communications at the airport, said: "Conditions at the airport have improved considerably. Traffic is still passing through Terminal 2B, but without significant delays."
Some staff are still orchestrating strike action, which travellers should be mindful of in relation to their wider travel plans.
Travellers should consider making sure that their
backpacker travel insurance offers protection against flight cancellation or airline bankruptcy, as the aviation industry has been affected by the global credit crunch.
