A consumer adviser has told
gap year travel insurance customers that a new holiday service could be a useful resource in the event of a crisis.
Which? suggests that the ABTA travel association's Travel Buddy device would help protect travellers in disaster zones, or those let down by holiday operators.
An email and text service, the facility provides customers with travel advice after they make a booking and in cases of emergency.
Lorna Cowan, editor of Which? Holiday, said: "It's got to be a good thing especially when you are talking about times of crisis.
"If any climate problem happens like floods or tsunamis or if your airline goes bust, it is good that ABTA members can point out their customers."
The fact that the Travel Buddy is free to all association members will make it widely popular among travellers, she added.
