Travellers should prioritise
online travel insurance when they book trips to Nelson in New Zealand.
According to stuff.co.nz, the region is currently defying national trends by showing an increase in hostel occupancy, by around 30 per cent on this time last year. As a whole, backpacker numbers have fallen by nearly ten per cent across the country, perhaps as more international travellers decide to journey closer to home. Tourism executives believe that the rise in business in Nelson could be due to a surge in domestic holidays taken by New Zealanders.
Paul Davis, chief executive of Nelson Tasman Tourism, told the website: "The big news is the domestic market growth of New Zealanders travelling to Nelson. We suspect that many New Zealanders are substituting international holidays for domestic ones."
Despite the possible rise in domestic tourism, however, the international pull is still very much present, with many overseas travellers buying
backpacker travel insurance and then heading out to the Queen Charlotte track and the Abel Tasman National Park.
Backpackers should buy
worldwide travel insurance in preparation.
