Backpacker travel insurance is recommended for people planning a future stay in a restored homestead in New Zealand.
According to Otago Daily Times, Paradise House near Glenorchy in New Zealand is shortly to undergo extensive refurbishment that will return the 125-year-old homestead to its former glory. Around $750,000 has been raised to fund the seven-month operation, which will carry out a careful balancing act to preserve the original building constructed by government architect William Morris in 1883 while also adhering to modern building regulations. When finished, the homestead will offer a museum and gallery in addition to backpacker accommodation.
Jackie Gillies, an architect in Queenstown who specialises in historic buildings, told the website: "It's about making sure we have the least possible impact on the old building to achieve the maximum effect of making it sound."
The work begins this month with repiling and the entire house will be raised two metres off the ground as the developers work to restore its original height.
