The Cairns Post reports that authorities in Cairns, in the north-eastern corner of Australia, are currently promoting the town as one of the top tourist destinations in the country. The Queensland On Stage event, held on an annual basis, invited several dozen journalists and travel agents to spend a few days in the region and learn all about what the town has to offer.
The trip involves visits to a variety of destinations including Cape Tribulation and Mission Beach, while high-adrenalin activities such as bungee jumping, white water rafting and sky-diving are also on offer.
Cairns is a popular place for backpackers, offering a sub-tropical climate that contrasts with cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. The coastal town is also close to the Great Barrier Reef, providing opportunities for scuba diving and snorkelling in some of the most stunning underwater environments.
