New audio phrasebooks could help make backpackers feel more confident when bought alongside
gap year travel insurance.
Technology firm Steape is working on a new audio phrasebook for use on some mobile phones, which could be used as a translation tool for up to ten different languages. The company is working on the project with popular backpacker travel guide Lonely Planet and plans to programme 200 separate phrases for each language. Translation would be available in both text and audio forms.
Bas Jaburg, a technical officer at Steape, told news.opodo.co.uk: "In an emergency or even if you just need to get to the airport and have no idea how to get there it could be a lifesaver."
The function could be a handy feature for young backpackers who are perhaps travelling away from home for the first time in their lives and need an added piece of comfort in the face of potential language barriers.
Young travellers are reminded that
gap year travel insurance is the first way to protect themselves while overseas.
