People with
cheap travel insurance heading off on gap years could use the opportunity to improve their CVs and boost their employment potential on their return, it has been claimed.
Gapyear.com has suggested that many people in the UK could decide to head abroad during the current recession in a bid to find casual work and build up a wide range of experiences.
These can then be added to a CV and provide a more impressive range of experience for an employer, making the backpacker a more viable candidate than someone who has done nothing since leaving full-time education.
Tom Griffiths, founder of gapyear.com, explained that the recession means fewer young people are able to get jobs at the moment but taking some time in a foreign country, learning new skills and gaining different experiences could help a candidate stand out when going for job interviews.
"It is very easy for us to get stuck in our safety zone following the hamster wheel of life; we go from one job to another to get some money. Now this is an opportunity to see the world for what it really is," he said.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown a further rise in unemployment in recent months, with young people particularly affected.
Therefore, now could be the perfect time to take out
worldwide travel insurance and leave the UK for a few months.
