Backpacking students looking to get hold of a cheap rail pass for journeying on the Taiwanese rail system may also be interested in
worldwide travel insurance.
The Taipei Times reports that a TR-Pass will be available from July 1st from the Taiwan Railway Administration, with international backpackers able to buy a pass for between five and ten days' travel, with the ten-day pass costing NT$1,089 (£20.23).
Intended to encourage more backpacking throughout the country, the scheme will be valid on services including the Fuxing Express and the Chukuang Express, but although travel will be unlimited backpackers will not be able to book their seats.
To take advantage of the offer, international students will be asked to present a student ID card issued by the National Youth Commission, as well as their passport.
Students may also choose to buy
gap year travel insurance before leaving home.
In related international rail news, cheap car hire is available for backpackers buying train tickets for trips across Croatia, according to the Croatian Times.
