Backpackers planning to take advantage of cheap flights to Brazil could buy
gap year travel insurance before leaving home.
Travel firm Journey Latin America hopes that cheaper flights to South America in the current downturn will encourage more backpackers and other holidaymakers to plan a trip to Brazil.
The organisation's Laura Rendell-Dunn said that many travellers could decide to go for it considering that prices will only get more expensive as the economy recovers.
Ms Rendell-Dunn said: "People will be thinking: before things start improving with the economy and the prices of tickets start to increase, let's take advantage of these good prices and travel now."
She added that the lower cost of living, driven down further by the slide of the national Brazilian currency, could also attract backpackers, all of whom have the option of buying
online travel insurance.
Figures from Journey Latin America reveal that holidaying for a week in Argentina can be up to 30 per cent cheaper than seven days in Paris.
