A new water purification device could be handy for backpackers heading into the wilderness with
online travel insurance.
The technology has been developed by Professor Dave Worley at Auburn University in Alabama and will be put on the market by HaloSource in Seattle under the name HaloPure Br.
The technology itself comprises a disinfecting cartridge that can be used with filtration and purification devices and could be utilised by a range of different groups, including backpackers.
Jeff Williams, HaloSource senior vice president and chief technology officer, said: "This technology has the potential for saving lives when there are no inexpensive means available for disinfecting drinking water."
He added that the technology kills bacteria on contact and so removes the need for additional pipes or electricity.
Backpackers planning a trip into a wilderness area, such as a national park in the US or the Australian outback, could potentially use the product while also buying
worldwide travel insurance.
