Backpackers planning a trip to New Zealand for the upcoming winter months have the option of first buying
online travel insurance.
According to Southland Times, Tourism New Zealand believes backpacker numbers from the UK will rise in the coming months as graduates choose to travel for a few months rather than battle through a recession to secure a job.
Australian ski fans are also expected to head for New Zealand in larger numbers as fewer people will be willing to travel to Japan and Europe in search of good ski slopes.
Gregg Anderson, Tourism New Zealand's UK and Europe regional manager, told Southland Times: "University will be finishing soon and with graduate positions down 40 per cent (because of the recession), a lot of people will be looking to mummy and daddy's credit cards and be on a plane."
He added that a lot of gap year travel packages have been sold. Many young people may also want to buy
gap year travel insurance.
The Southern Alps in New Zealand's South Island offer great skiing conditions sought-after by visitors.
