The Cairns Post reports that Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) has launched a series of new marketing slogans designed to appeal to the young backpacker market.
Phrases such as "Wet yourself in front of your mates", promoting white-water rafting and "Get high before breakfast", promoting dawn hot-air ballooning, are specifically targeting the backpacker market which comprises around 20 per cent of the regional tourism sector.
Stephen Olle, chairman of TTNQ, told the paper: "Australia is attractive because of the low dollar and cheaper fuel makes it easier to get around."
Queensland is looking to attract more Americans and Scandinavians, on top of its more established British, Irish and European visitor base. All backpackers can buy

Cairns is particularly well known as a youth-oriented party town from where backpackers can visit the Great Barrier Reef.
