Worldwide travel insurance could be handy for the growing number of people getting hold of Australian working holiday visas.
The Australian Visa Bureau reports that it has witnessed a surge in working visa applications, with reduced job opportunities in the UK being a likely reason for the recent increased interest in working abroad.
More backpackers heading to Australia on 12-month visas, many of whom may have got hold of
online travel insurance, could help the country to offset losses made from a reduction in older tourists.
Amanda Gripske, of the Australian Visa Bureau, said: "We predicted at the start of the year that 2009 would be a great year for Australian working holidays and judging by the amount of visa grants issued over the past four months, it looks as though we were spot on."
Backpackers could also secure employer sponsorship in Australia, which would allow them to remain in the country for longer.
In a related story, ABC News recently reported that seasonal workers in Bundaberg, Queensland, have had more problems collecting money owed to them by their employers.
