Backpacker travel insurance could be a useful purchase for people planning on using WiFi internet access on their trip.
Travel website Expedia said that with the internet now such an integral part of people's everyday lives, more and more people plan to access a WiFi link while they are overseas.
However, the website warned that travellers expecting to use it a lot should plan ahead to make they got the best price on the service they accessed.
Alison Couper, communications director at Expedia, said: "It is so important to be aware of the cost of connecting to a wireless network, whether it's at airports, cafes and hotels before travelling."
Price-checking could be particularly important for backpackers on a budget, while people taking their own hardware could buy
online travel insurance in case of any mishaps.
As part of a recent study, Expedia found that generally luxury hotels are more likely to charge for WiFi access than more budget accommodation, although the abundance of pricing models can hamper comparison.
