Holders of
gap year travel insurance can now pack virtual guides to the Australian outback, to help them navigate their way through the remote areas of the country.
Do It Yourself Tourguide has created a digital record of the outback's roads and audio sightseeing tours on CD and MP3, which consumers of
worldwide travel insurance can use to inform their trips.
Key routes features on the virtual guides are the drive from Alice Springs to Uluru, the trails of the Red Centre Way and the tracks in the West MacDonnell Ranges.
"Many travellers see Australia's outback highways as lonely, straight stretches of bitumen," company director Laurelle Halford said.
He added: "Our product gives self-guided travellers a new experience by bringing to life the stories of our early pioneers, Aboriginal culture, flora, fauna and natural history."
According to the Australian government, an increasing number of people from different backgrounds are choosing to explore the Outback, but tourism officials advise them to ensure they have the correct maps on hand.
