A Dutch backpacker has swum against the tide to invest in Iran, it has been reported.
Despite Western trade embargoes with the country, the backpacker Sebastian Straten has decided to open a guesthouse in the city of Yazd.
Along with his Iranian business partner, Mr Straten has begun developing a guesthouse in the city famous for its narrow winding alleys and streets, and hopes to expand into other historical cities throughout the country.
Iran is a popular country to visit for many backpackers as a result of it being on the Silk Route, which connected Chinese and European traders centuries ago.
The country is no doubt divisive though, as the US has famously included it in outgoing president George Bush's 'Axis of Evil'.
As such,
worldwide travel insurance policies must be read carefully to ensure a trip to the country is covered, and that backpackers aren't left in the dark in the event of an accident.
