Bangkok was yesterday (July 10th) named as 'the world's best city' in a new online poll.
Travel and Leisure magazine released the results of its annual 'World's Best' survey, which showed that the Thai capital has deposed last year's winner, Florence.
It was the first time Bangkok has topped the category, with the rest of the top five being made up by Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Sydney and Florence.
The Galapagos Islands were also named as the 'world's best island' for the first time, rising from eighth place and knocking last year's winner, Bali, off top spot.
Commenting on the results, Nancy Novograd, the magazine's editor-in-chief, said: "We're delighted to welcome so many new winners this year. Nature and adventure were clearly a draw in the selections."
In the 'world's best hotel' category, the Singita Sabi Sand & Kruger National Park hotel in South Africa came out on top, rising from second place last year.
The results were compiled from votes by the magazine's subscribers in an internet poll which took place between January and March.
