According to holiday advice site thetravelmagazine.net, travellers' behaviour has changed as a result of the credit crunch.
Sharron Livingston, the site's editor, said that people are now more likely to take shorter breaks and are "becoming more attuned to searching out bargains".
She added that the travel industry has seen an "unprecedented amount of failure both in airlines and travel agencies over the last 18 months."
"This highlights the change in traveller behaviour attributed to the credit crunch and general need for caution when it comes to spending on luxuries in the middle market," Ms Livingston said.
Her comments follow the release of a statement from Richard Carrick, chief executive of Hoseasons Holidays, who said that many Brits were more likely to stay in the UK for a holiday rather than go abroad.
