Local tourism may well benefit from the story of Jamie Neale who survived 12-days in the outback, according to the Blue Mountains Gazette.
Chairman of Blue Mountains Tourism, Randall Walker, said that as the story ended well, the mass media coverage of the area may be a good thing.
Images of the Blue Mountains National Park were circulated around the world in news reports and on the internet, Mr Walker told the paper.
The tourism board ensured that local experts were on hand to field any press enquiries, he added.
The Blue Mountains region offers a range of attractions for backpackers aside from bushwalking including visits to canyons and waterfalls, says the board's website.
