People who may have bought
worldwide travel insurance ahead of a gap year should consider spending at least some of their time in Australia, one expert has said.
Tom Griffiths, founder of Gapyear.com, has claimed that Australia is one of the best places for people to spend their year out because it offers a wide variety of things to do, with something for everyone.
Writing in the Guardian, Mr Griffiths explains: "Australia has possibly the highest number of entries on the Ten Things To Do Before You Die list."
Among these are the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru (Ayers Rock), as well as a wide range of differing environments from rainforest to desert.
With so many different things to do for people who may have bought backpackers travel insurance before making the trip, it is perhaps little surprise that the country remains a favourite destination for people taking gap years.
However, those hoping to visit Uluru will have to make their way to Australia sooner rather than later, after the Australian government recently announced plans to phase out visits to the location.
The move is part of an effort to restore the famous rock to the Aborigines, who see it as a sacred place and do not want endless tourist groups arriving at the location.
