Gap year travel insurance customers looking for inspiration for their adventures may be interested to hear Australia's Northern Territory(NT) has been named the country's most life-changing destination.
According to the latest Roy Morgan Campaign Tracking research, the region offers more unique and inspirational experiences than any other state or territory.
Rita Harding, general manager of marketing and communications at Tourism Northern Territory, said the results of the survey were testament to the hard work done by local officials.
"The results are indicative of our commitment to the local tourism industry and our most recent marketing efforts to promote Darwin have performed exceptionally well through increased preference and intention to visit the NT," she noted.
Australian travellers surveyed for the research were asked to match emotional words with different states and the Northern Territory drew the most matches with the terms unique, adventurous, spiritual, inspirational and life-changing.
NT is home to the Kakadu national park, one of the few World Heritage sites listed for both natural and cultural value.
