Gap year travel insurance customers wondering where to visit on their trip in Australia might want to consider stopping by a Queensland zoo after hearing it won a state award.
Australia Zoo has been voted the top attraction in the region at the annual Queensland Tourism Awards.
The accolade was awarded during a ceremony in the state's new Tourism Hall of Fame yesterday (November 16th).
Tourism minister Peter Lawlor praised the attraction for its commitment to raising environmental awareness.
Other regional tourism operators to be recognised by the awards included the Capricorn region's Rubyvale Gem Gallery, north Queensland reef tour operator Passions of Paradise and Townsville's Noorla Heritage Resort.
The state winners will now go forward to the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Hobart in February 2010.
In related news, tourism officials have announced Queensland is to benefit from an image makeover, with rebranding efforts beginning early next year.
