Backpackers looking to work as they travel in Australia could find seasonal positions at a citrus farm in New South Wales.
Graham Eipper and his wife Barbara have spent the past five years turning a rundown citrus farm at Glendale in Santigo into a profitable business, and now they have moved into hazelnut production as well. To help pick the crop, the couple have built accommodation to house casual pickers, which includes cooking and shower facilities.
Graham told weeklytimenow.co.au: "We employ two local pickers and also employ backpackers in the season, and treat them as members of the family."
Since their success with citrus, Graham and Barbara have expanded into hazelnuts as the crop requires relatively little attention.
The farm is just one of many opportunities that backpackers and other travellers can take advantage of in order to spend some time in the region and earn some money before moving onto the next leg of their trip.
