A backpacker car crash in Queensland, Australia has reiterated the need for people to buy
backpacker travel insurance.
Warwick Daily News reports that five backpackers were injured in a head-on collision between a sedan and a mini-bus on a road near Stanthorpe in Queensland. A spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said that the sedan may have strayed towards the centre of the road, causing the collision with the mini-bus travelling in the other direction.
The occupants of the sedan reportedly sustained spinal and leg injuries and one was thrown through the windscreen of the car. All five individuals involved in the crash had been employed as fruit-pickers at nearby Sweet's Strawberry Runners.
Glenys Sweet, co-owner of Sweet's Strawberry Runners, told the paper: "The people in the van's job contractor rang me and asked me to call an ambulance immediately."
Two of the backpackers were taken to Toowoomba Hospital. All backpackers should buy
worldwide travel insurance before leaving home, in case of an accident.
