Backpackers looking to check out turtle nesting season in Australia should buy
cheap travel insurance before setting off on their trip, reports magnetictimes.com.
The turtle nesting season is about to begin on Magnetic Island off the coast of north Queensland. While the chance to see turtles on the island's various beaches can be a rare opportunity for backpackers visiting the area, local conservation group the Sea Turtle Foundation is looking to minimise disruption to the nesting creatures.
Gitte Kragh, project manager for Sea Turtle Foundation, told the website: "We need to involve local residents in the protection of sea turtles to ensure their future in our oceans."
Turtles can be disturbed in their nesting habits by various environmental conditions, most of which are created by human activity. Specifically, local residents are being asked to dim beach lights as these can be confusing for hatchlings which should be aiming for the sea.
Backpackers heading for the region should firstly ensure they have
