Backpackers looking for fast and reliable internet connections in Australia could find
worldwide travel insurance beneficial.
The Fraser Island Chronicle reports that although broadband connection speeds in Hervey Bay in Queensland have improved in recent years, more can be done to make services better.
Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd recently announced a $43 million (£21 million) investment fund for establishing a high-speed broadband network throughout Australia, in news that could encourage backpackers seeking web access while on their travels.
Mark Juppenlatz, manager of Next Backpackers hostel in Hervey Bay, told the paper: "[Our broadband service] is a lot faster and more stable and at least when there are problems you deal with someone locally [and] not overseas. But it definitely could improve."
The majority of travellers who stay at Next Backpackers have left their laptop at home but like to communicate with friends and family by uploading their travel photos. Many have bought
online travel insurance.
The New York Times recently reported that online backpacker community CouchSurfing has gained its one millionth member.
