How to survive in the outback is the topic for a class in Auburn, South Australia.
Developed by the Green River community college the course offers an eight-hour long hands-on day class taught by an experienced survival trainer.
Demonstrations will include how to build shelter, prepare a fire and create your own survival kit.
Learning from the experience of Jamie Neale, who was recently found after 12-days in the bush, backpackers may find the lessons on signalling for help particularly useful.
The next class is to be held on 8th August and those looking for later dates are advised to get in touch with Green River.
The South Australia tourist board say the region is ideal for backpackers.
As well as being able to earn extra money through fruit-picking work, travellers can also find adventure by surfing or swimming with dolphins.
