Australia's Great Barrier Reef has just received a $7.5 million funding boost to protect it from water run-off along along the coast.
Federal environment minister Peter Garrett, the lead singer of 1980s chart band Midnight Oil, sanctioned the cash award.
He commented that coastal communities know the reef is in danger.
The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in north-east Australia.
Famous for being the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms, it was labelled as being one of the seven natural wonders of the world by US TV network CNN.
Thirty species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises have been sighted in the Great Barrier Reef. These include the dwarf minke whale, the Indo-pacific humpback dolphin and the humpback whale.
Sharks and sea-horses are just two of the many other species which call the reef home.
A small population of salt water crocodiles live in mangrove in the reef near the coast.
