Worldwide travel insurance policyholders may have been among the 900 people from across the globe that descended on Rockhampton for one of Australia's biggest RV rallies.
Following the event's success, Queensland's tourism minister Peter Lawlor said the rally had firmly placed the Capricorn region on the driving holiday map.
"Campervan and motorhome owners are the great road travellers of Australia, exploring all corners of the country and injecting much needed tourism dollars into regional economies," he noted.
Mr Lawlor added that the drive tourism market is vital for Australia's economy and indicated that new measures would help to make it sustainable.
He maintained that it was important that "the only thing left behind are tyre tracks", explaining that a new waste water system would help to keep the landscape unscathed.
According to travel operator Queensland Holidays, the drive along the Capricorn Highway is one of "discovery, adventure and surprises", stretching 567 kilometres and taking in the gem fields of Emerald and Lake Maraboon.
