Burglary charges levelled against two teenagers in Bundaberg, Queensland, might encourage more backpacker to buy
online travel insurance.
News Mail reports that two 14-year-olds face 22 counts of a range of crimes including burglary after local police found a vast collection of stolen property such as digital cameras, laptops, clothes and mobile phones collectively worth $4,000 (£1,922).
Two backpacker hostels in the town were among the various places targeted by the thieves and this could convince more people to protect their property by buying
gap year travel insurance.
Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildredof the Bundaberg police told the website: "Two were charged with 22 offences. A laptop was stolen from a Bundaberg North backpackers."
Backpackers often choose to stay in low-cost hostels to keep their expenses to a minimum while overseas, but buying some kind of travel insurance could be a good idea as many hostels are designed as communal environments and personal possessions are more open to theft.
