According to Australian news service ABC Rural, croc safaris could soon be the new activity of choice for adventurous tourists.
The Northern Territory's government recently proposed to allow hunts for 25 saltwater crocodiles a year but the suggestion is yet to be approved by environment minister Peter Garrett.
John Clapham, a deer hunter from New South Wales, hopes the news could set a precedent for other native animals to be hunted.
He told the news source: "Everywhere around the world where animals have a price tag on their head, they're well supported and well cared for and deliberately kept from extinction."
The proposals have triggered widespread protest from conservationists and Aussie naturalist Bob Irwin has joined the RSPCA and the Humane Society International to voice his dissent, reports the Courier Mail.
