Frisky backpackers blamed for STD spread could choose gap year travel insurance

British travellers, who could include worldwide travel insurance customers, are reportedly endangering the health of Australians by engaging in risky behaviour abroad.

Published in the medical journal Sexually Transmitted Infections, a new study revealed amorous Brits typically have triple the number of sexual partners they would at home.

Worryingly 40.9 per cent say they do not always use a condom, while almost one quarter (24 per cent) had unprotected sex with multiple partners.

Of those who arrived with a boyfriend or girlfriend, more than a third ended up having multiple partners while abroad.

Conducted jointly by British and Australian researchers, the report also found UK holidaymakers are some of the worst offenders for outstaying their visas.

Presenting the findings, Oz immigration minister Chris Evans told parliament: "They are often young Englishmen who have gone to a party and are a few days late because they're having such a good time in Sydney."
