Gap year travel insurance is recommended for backpackers planning a regular knees-up with their fellow travellers in New South Wales.
According to telegraph.co.uk, measures are being introduced across the Australian state to curb binge-drinking and address an increase in alcohol-fuelled violence. New South Wales has recorded over 20,000 alcohol-related incidents over the past 12 months. In response, 24-hour licences will be halted while the 48 pubs with the worst reputations will face restrictions over quantities served.
Daryl Smeaton, head of the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation, told the website that the measures needed to be more extensive: "The causes are the length of the drinking hours, the density of outlets and an industry that is not prepared to admit it is part of the problem."
Measures to come into force from December include the requirement that bars close for ten minutes of each hour after midnight, and, most significantly, a rule that no new customers will be admitted into a bar or pub after 2am.
Young travellers should buy
