Young people planning a stay in Queensland, Australia, are advised to buy
gap year travel insurance before they set off.
According to a report from ABC News, Queensland has displayed strong economic growth in defiance of global financial turmoil and is still the best region in the country for tourist accommodation. Australian Visa Bureau reports that figures from Tourism Queensland showed a 3.4 per cent increase in the number of rooms available in the region, a growth rate unmatched anywhere else in Australia.
Anthony Hayes, chief executive of Tourism Queensland, told ABC News: "I would hope what we will see over the next 12 months is a swing back from Australians going overseas, a swing back towards Queensland and as a result this room stock should come in very handy."
Australia is a popular travel destination for young people taking a year out between college and university who are keen to experience global travel before settling down to further studies.
