Backpackers heading to Australia may be inspired to visit the Northern Territory (NT) following the release of the new Baz Luhrmann film - Australia.
The movie is partially shot in the NT and head of tourism in the region Maree Tetlow is encouraging intrepid travellers to venture north when visiting Oz.
"I would think that when things are tough that people generally want escapism and probably going to the movies is good for Fox Studios and Baz Luhrmann," she told ABC.
"As people decide that 'Yes, look, we're still going to have our holidays, we're still going to travel', then hopefully we're high on their menu of places to go."
In terms of escapism, there are few better places in the world to escape to than the Northern Territory.
The area is a centre for Aboriginal culture and backpackers can enjoy wilderness treks and bush safaris while learning about Australia's history.
Any backpacker heading to the bush should beware of the numerous dangers involved and have travel insurance to ensure that, should the worst happen, they are adequately covered.
An interesting fact is that the Northern Territory is one of the few remaining places on the planet not to have a speed limit on public roads.
