People travelling to Australia who are afraid of snakes could benefit from
backpacker travel insurance.
Byron Shire News reports that Byron Bay resident Jesse Goggins is recovering after being bitten by a tiger snake on Christmas Eve last year.
The Canadian national was walking home in the late evening when the snake bit him and he ended up spending a month in hospital. He is now in better shape although his muscles will need more time to recover.
Mr Goggins' friends have arranged a fund-raising barbecue at the Byron Bay Bowling Club which will offer a raffle draw, a beer and bowling for a $25 (£11.20) admission fee.
Tiger snakes are quite common in suburbs in eastern and southern Australia but don't tend to strike unless aggravated or threatened. Australian hospitals have good stocks of anti-venom owing to the number of dangerous species found in the country.
One-way travel insurance is an option for backpackers seeking peace of mind when they're out and about in Australia.
