Backpackers looking for safety tips and more general information in the Queensland town of Bundaberg, Australia, could also buy some
worldwide travel insurance.
News Mail reports that the town is setting up a backpacker accord, under which people visiting Bundaberg for the first time will have the option of an induction session where they can learn about the place and get any information on safety or anything else that springs to mind.
The accord is a response to problems the town has experienced in the past, some of which has involved backpackers drinking in the streets or being victims of robberies.
Bundaberg police senior sergeant Erwin Hoffman told the paper: "By having an accord, all backpackers will be able to work with police to make their experience here as pleasant as possible, prevent people breaking the law and provide a safe environment."
Backpackers always have the option of buying
gap year travel insurance in case they have any difficulties.
Travel insurance could be considered as important as remembering to take a suitcase overseas, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association.
