Diving with sharks is proving popular amongst backpackers and other travellers off the coast of South Australia.
Trips to shark-infested waters off the Australian coast are proving popular amongst travellers keen to get up close and personal with the misunderstood beasts. For only a few hundred dollars backpackers can catch a view of the majestic monsters from within the safety of a shark cage, as experienced recently by Brad Crouch.
The traveller told adelaidenow.com.au: "The steel-mesh cage on the back of the boat has several ominous dents and a series of gaps about 40 cm wide between mesh areas that seemed far too open."
Despite natural concerns, however, shark cages are very safe and allow swimmers to get as close to the sharks as they would ever want. No scuba qualification is needed either, as swimmers simply perch in the cage and breathe through regulators fed from the boat only centimetres above. It's an extreme experience with an exciting difference.
