A speed dating evening to be held next week hopes to hook British women up with Aussie men - and solve South Australia's skills shortage.
Bill Muirhead, South Australia's agent general in London, is aware that South Australia has a shortage of doctors, nurses, accountants, chefs and hairdressers.
He is also aware that 50.4 per cent of the male population in South Australia is single, compared to 34.7 per cent in the UK.
Research has also shown that single British women under 45 regard getting through the long, cold lonely winters as the worst thing about being single.
Mr Muirhead, who clearly didn't watch the last Olympics or Rugby World Cup, told the Telegraph: "We asked our men, who are bronzed, sportier, and who are enjoying a booming economy, to step up to the plate and entice British women to a better way of life.
Hence the honey-trap speed dating evening where British women can meet eligible Aussie men including a winemaker, a chef, bankers, and straggly-haired surfers.
