A jazz festival in the Sydney suburb of Manly will feature a tribute to arguably the world's greatest-ever jazz musician.
The Manley Jazz Festival will take place on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th. The Sunday will see Manley-born [close space] Andrew Speight and his quintet pay homage to saxophone legend Charlie Parker.
Known simply as 'Bird' by his legion of fans, Parker died in 1955, aged just 34, his death hastened by drug abuse.
But the Manley festival will keep the Parker memories alive and its beachfront location will provide both a stunning backdrop and a suitable atmosphere for honouring the greats of the past.
The festival itself has been running for 30 years and attracts the world's best musicians as well as providing a showcase for local bands.
It is an even which is particularly popular with students who this year will get the chance to hear Parker classics such as Billie's Bounce, Leap Frog and Parker's Mood.
