The growing demand among backpackers for adventure travel has once again been highlighted with the news that the 'Cool Dingo Tour' to Fraser Island has won a top Queensland tourism award for the second year in a row.
Organised by TNT Magazine, the Golden Backpack Awards 2008 recognised the best operators across all of Australia, with more than 11,000 travellers having submitted their opinions over the past few months.
And, when it comes to getting off the beaten track in the state of Queensland, it seems the adventure tour to Fraser Island is head and shoulders above the rest, though given that the island is only accessible by 4x4 and is home to a large wild dingo population, backpackers should ensure that their travel insurance is up-to-speed before they look to join in the fun.
Welcoming the news, Joe Currenti, leisure sales manager at the operator, told TNT: "Cool Dingo Tours really are a great way to experience World Heritage-listed Fraser Island and to meet like-minded travellers from all over the globe, he said.
"There's plenty of action and adventure - and best of all there are no tents, no sleeping bags, no cooking, no driving and no worries whilst
on tour."
This comes soon after a koala sanctuary on nearby Magnetic Island was named best backpacker resort of the year by Queensland tourist authorities.
