Kakadu and Uluru were voted Australia's top two destinations by US magazine National Geographic Traveler.
The sixth annual Places Rated Destination Stewardship survey named Kakadu as one of the word's top ten destinations.
Located in the north of the country, Kakadu National Park offers visitors tropical waterholes, wetlands, rare species of plants and animals and ancient rock art.
Ranked 32nd in the world, Uluru is best known for its red desert setting, surrounded by canyons, ranges and the famous outback town of Alice Springs.
Judges commended the regions for their varied wildlife, unspoilt beauty and care and sustainability programmes.
Tourism Northern Territory chief executive Maree Tetlow said the results of the survey are testament to the work done by tourism operators and park management.
Norway's spectacular fjords were rated as the world's most iconic place in the survey, with particular praise given to the region's well-preserved scenery and rural life.
