Worldwide travel insurance is advised for backpackers planning to work in Australia to rebuild their savings.
According to Australian Visa Bureau, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (Diac) found that the number of British nationals visiting Australia on working holiday visas during July, August and September of this year increased by over 20 per cent when compared to 2007 figures for the same period. Tourism Australia said that British nationals sought an escape from economic turbulence at home.
Rodney Harrex, general manager of Tourism Australia for UK/Europe, told the website: "Australia has a lot to offer young British travellers who are looking to live the Aussie lifestyle and gain valuable work experience overseas."
The working holiday visa allows young people to remain in the country for up to two years, potentially gaining valuable experience to take back home with them.
Backpackers are advised to seek
worldwide travel insurance in preparation for a journey overseas, regardless of the intended length of the trip.
