Backpackers have the option of buying one-way travel insurance before they head off to explore a popular cycle route in California.
The Modesto Bee reports that mountain bike tours are being introduced along Point Reyes National Seashore, a national park north of San Francisco.
People not used to cycling over rough terrain can enjoy the trip as much as experienced cyclists as the route is relatively straightforward, while it also offers impressive California scenery and sights of local wildlife.
Bruce Haverkos, a 60-year-old internet marketer, told the website: "This is a huge treat for us because we get a little bit of biking and then spend the rest of the time on the beach - it's like paradise."
Many backpackers, some of whom may have bought
online travel insurance before leaving home, trek to a nearby campsite to stay.
Travellers often choose to stay in hostels as they offer lower rates for communal accommodation.
