Backpacker travel insurance customers looking for a destination where their savings will go a little further may want to consider a trip to India, after hearing the country has been named as the best value for money destination in the world.
According to the latest Country Brand Index conducted by consultancy FutureBrand in conjunction with public relations firm Weber Shandwicks Global Travel & Lifestyle Practice, the subcontinent also scores highly for authenticity, history, art and culture.
India also made it into the report's list of 'rising stars' - those countries likely to be big tourist destinations for 2010.
The United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and China are also tipped for big things in the travel market in forthcoming years.
Overall, the US bagged the top spot in the survey, followed by Canada and former victor Australia.
Researchers compared 102 countries in such fields as arts and culture, business, best place to raise a family, political freedom, nightlife and environmentalism.
