People inspired to climb one of the world's highest mountains could benefit from taking out
cheap travel insurance.
According to responsibletravel.com, a growing number of people are considering scaling Mount Kilimanjaro after being inspired to do so by the exploits of a group of celebrities in aid of Comic Relief.
Last week, the efforts of stars including Take That singer Gary Barlow and DJ Chris Moyles in climbing to the peak of Kilimanjaro were screened on the BBC.
The team, which also included Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, as well as Boyzone star Ronan Keating, raised over £1 million for the charity and their climb appears to have inspired many more people across the UK to consider scaling Africa's highest mountain.
Krissy Roe, spokesperson for responsibletravel.com, said interest in the mountain had increased dramatically in the wake of the Comic Relief programme.
She said demand was now "12 times more than normal".
However, anyone planning to emulate the stars could benefit from taking out
worldwide travel insurance to cover them in the event that something should happen to them on the mountain.
Several members of the celebrity group suffered from altitude sickness during the five-day ascent, including presenter Fearne Cotton.
Mount Kilimanjaro stands at 19,300 ft (5,900 m) above sea level and is situated in north-eastern Tanzania.
